In cold, windy weather tbe first itw6 rounds of the Lyall Bay Bdwlirig Club's championship rinks were played last Saturday. In section A, J. B. Reid came through v with two wins. In. his second game against J. Leuchars he drew two brilliant shots with his last bowls and won by one point. - , In section B, E Newson defeated last ," year's champion rink, skipped by^F.' " G: Hazlewood, by one point. In hn second game Newson played Sherwood and again prevailed by a point, having , t to draw four shots on the last head to win. > J , & Mr Frank Faulkner, a director, v de- >_ serves special mention for the wonder- 3 ful work that he has put into the gar- * : den this year. It is many years since - - the -green surroundings have' looked , such a picture. KELBURN CLUB u> The first round of the champion fo\irs . competition of the Kelburn Bowling / , Club was played on Saturday last with ~ „, the following results:—J. R. Smith beat » Reid, Gray beat Tullett, Pears beat W Morgan, Wylie beat Doherty, Middleton y. beat Thomson, Neilsen beat McAneny, Strickland beat Purvis. Wicks beat- - * Lyall. - * So far two rounds of the percentage N , v fours games have been played, the ■** winners of both rounds being:—Skips, • Neilsen, Routley, J. R. Smith, and 1 Strickland; No. 3's, Morpeth, Scott, and .. "' Tingey; No. 2's, Alexander and, Ross; , % leads, Cooke. - ~ A rink from the Kelburn Club was '; successful in lifting the Hill Pihsfrbfti - ■-"% the' Wellington Club, which had held » v them for some considerable time. At the tea adjournment on Saturday- /> the president, Mr., C. W. 'Neilsen, made ' % feeling reference to the loss sustained' £ by the club in the death of Mr. Robert ]? Gardner, who was a pioneer member of the club. - ; Eulogistic comments on the excellent state of the Kelburn greens have been i made by visiting players. .Both greens are in splendid order and reflect great j. credit on the caretaker. *
