TURF NEWS IN BRIEF
Single-pool betting at Levin on Saturday. Auckland Cup and Railway weights, are not due till November 30, *■.
Centrepoise will. probably now have a short, well-earned respite, as he is not nominated for the Auckland Cup. P. Atkins and A. Messervy took.the riding honours at the C.J.C. Meeting with four successes each. A^ E. Ellis piloted three winners. Three trainers produced three winners at-the C.J.C. Meeting. They were S. J. Reid (Beaulivre twice and Yogi), H. A. Telford (Globe Trotter, Enrich, Absolve), and F. D. Jones (Royal Chief, Moorsotis, Lady Leigh). . Tableau, who is. engaged in the open sprint at Levin on Saturday, failed to make a showing at Napier Park last Saturday, but evidently she is favourably viewed by her connections,, as she was given a nomination forvthe: Auckland Railway Handicap. Yours Truly and Dictate are engaged in the Auckland Cup on Boxing Day, but neither Capricious nor Royal Chief, who finished second and fourth respectively, in the New Zealand Cup, are in the Auckland field.
Dark Flight, the star sprinter at the C.J.C. Meeting outside of Beaulivre, is to enjoy a brief spell on his return to Riverton. He may have a race at Invercargill at the New Year, but his next important mission will, be the valuable sprints at Trentham in January." f ■■ ■ -.-.■■ ;.-•. to a Takanini report Sunola, who has already; won: two races this season, will be -missing immediate engagements. He has, suffered an injury to his chest, which :is responding to treatment but has kept him off the tracks recently. Windsor Chief's presence in the field for the Metropolitan Handicap at Riccarton last Saturday, taken down for that single race, apparently made many recall Siegmund's Great •Autumn in similar circumstances, for hie was backed down to fifth favourite, though he had no recent form to justify the support. He ran a fair race but was never really dangerous." . Nightbeam, who has, won Tioth races he has so far contested and, is,now apparently the best juvenile of the early season in the north, is a bay colt by Night Raid out of the Paladin —Tormentor mare Lady Burleigh, who raced only four times, as a juvenile, and was placed on each occasion. Tormentor was out of imported Torquato, who also left the useful Gauntlet and Martial Dawn (dam of Callamart) arid who several removes back links withthe line that has produced' Royal Chief. .'•■'■ . ■ :■■• v :7\>" 7
