George was also very satisfied with the race that Beau-Vite ran in the Melbourne Gup, in ; which he might with any -luck have'ffinished/in the money. George mehtiohs that the price- of 10,000 guineas reported paid for the New-^-Zealand colt Gold Salute was made up mainly of contingencies that' did not eventuate. The actual cash; price was only, 3800 guineas, with another iOOO guineas out of each Derby and the balance ; from ; ,the Melbourne Cup, none;of which events was won.
