Saturday's crowd of 35,759, the biggest since opening day, gave the St. John Ambulance staff a busy time attending to cases of bruises, cut fingers, grit in the eye, and other minor matters, in addition to a number of people who fainted. About 50 cases were dealt with by an augmented staff of 140 nurses and men, a special call for
additional members having been made
spot, and the equipment and facilities provided for the staff are capable of dealing with any emergency. Only one or two cases of petty thefts required to be dealt with by the detective staff at the Exhibition on Saturday, which speaks volumes for the efficiency of the supervision exercised. There was one more serious case which brought the offender before a Magistrate. Since the opening day notices advising the public to beware of pickpockets have been prominently displayed, and have probably caused country visitors particularly to look to the safety of their more easily accessible valuables. With the-advent of the holidays, bringing tlie inevitable element of doubtful characters to mingle with the crowd, the necessity for caution on the part of visitors will be even more evident.
