GERMAN MACHINES

OVER NORTHERN PART OF FRANCE

INFANTRY ATTACKS

(By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright.)

LONDON, November 11.

French military sources state that German ' reconnaissance planes swarmed over northern France this morning, resulting in air raid warnings over a wide area, including Paris, where distant gunfire was heard. The results of anti-aircraft fire are so far not known.

German mass flights yesterday, accompanied by mile-long artillery barrages in two undisclosed sectors, were followed by infantry attacks which reached the French second advance lines. The French counterattacked and regained the lost posi-

tions.

A Brussels correspondent says the German frontier' is closed between Aachen-and Eupen. Communication is maintained by detour.

An official spokesman in Amsterdam declared that there were no grounds for undue nervousness. Holland was particularly anxious that her defence measures should not be interpreted as being directed against any one belligerent. Inaccurate reports published abroad created irritation. The nation was prepared to meet any situation.

The Berlin correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain says that authorised sources reiterated the Government's declaration that it would respect the> neutrality of Holland and other non-belligerent countries, provided they observed neutrality. That was Germany's last word on the subject.
