AFTER FROST LAST NIGHT

Special forecast for Wellington:— Light to fresh south-westerly winds. Weather fine and cool.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, ;s for moderate to strong south-easterly to southerly winds northwards from Taranaki and Hawke's Bay. Elsewhere winds will Toe light to fresh in force and rather variable, with a south-west-erly direction predominating. The weather for the most part will be fair to fine, but in the Hawke's Bay and Poverty Bay area it will be unsettled, however, with further scattered rain, and in the far north and south it will be changeable with some showers. Te-nperatures will be cool to mpderate, with gome frosts tonight inthe south.

The last of the recent series of westerly depressions has passed across New Zealand. An'anti-cyclone of moderate intensity is approaching southern New Zealand, but the north-eastern and far northern parts of the North Island are under the influence of a new disturbance developing to the north-east. Moderate to strong - north-westerly winds prevailed everywhere at the beginning of the' weekend, but subsequently there was a southerly change which was accompanied andi followed by scattered rain in most districts. The weather has now improved^ except m eastern districts between Napier and East Cape where skies are overcast and scattered rain is falling, and in the far south where it is showery. Temperatures became cooler with the southerly change.

It was cloudy to overcast and showery in Auckland most of the weekend, 14 points of rain being recorded. Winds were moderate and rather variable, but fresh southerlies have now set in. Temperatures became cooler with the southerly change, the maximum on Saturday and Sunday being 67.2 and 61.8 degrees respectively, and the minimum on the two days 52.8 and 49 degrees.

Wellington had a continuance of a strong north-westerly on Saturday, but by Sunday morning this gave place to a moderate southerly. The weather was mainly cloudy to overcast, but has now become bright and sunny. The bright sunshine totalled only three hours on Saturday and 3.1 hours yesterday, and 25 points of rain were recorded at Kelburn. Saturday's maximum and minimum temperatures were 60.2 and 44.7 degrees, and yesterday's 55.6 and 41.2 degrees, while a frost of 1.6 degrees was recorded at Kelburn last night.

The strong north-westerly wind in Christchurch changed to a light southwesterly about midnight on Saturday, but no rain is reported. The weather has been fair to cloudy, with warm temperatures on Saturday, but cooler yesterday.

Dunedin has had fair to cloudy weather over the weekend with a fresh south-westerly wind and cool temperatures. There was a shower or two each day, nine points of rain being recorded this morning.
