FORMER WELLINGTON GIRL
The arrival in London of the Hon. Peter Fraser and his staff would bring with it a real breath of home to Miss Kitty Steffens. of the New Zealand High Commissioner's office, who, until a few months ago, was well known amongst Wellington's younger set and a member of the Minister's office staff in Parliament Buildings. Her social ac-
tivities in Wellington embraced active membership of the Wellington Esperanto Club, the Wellington Repertory Theatre Society, and the Taranaki Tramping Club. She was on the Young People's Haeremai Committee. Her duties during the latter part of her term in the Minister's ofiice were closely associated with social welfare work, and the secretary of the Smith Family organisation joined in the round of farewells to her when she left New Zealand. She also dealt with matters affecting Mr., Fraser's constituents in the Wellington Central electorate.
Miss Steffens reached England just as war broke out and travelled from New Zealand by the ship which also carried the New Zealand League footballers. Her appointment at the High Commissioner's Ofiice in London is for a pferiod of two years, but Miss Steffens hoped when she left he Dominion that an opportunity would arise to prolong her stay . in London beyond that period, , ,
