HANDLING FIREARMS

VALUE OF GUM CLUBS

(l.jy Telegraph—-Press Ajssoc-iiition.)

AUCKLAND, July 30

That every person should be taught to handle firearms properly, in view of the many appalling accidents involvingguns and rifles, was the opinion expressed by the. Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Parry, at the official opening of the. Auckland Gun Club's new ground and clubhouse at Mount Wellington.

I "The facilities, provided by most of the gun clubs throughout New Zealand afford every boy and girl the opportunity to learn to shoot properly, and the proper management of firearms," said Mr. Parry. "There are established clubs in all'the principal centres in the Dominion, and I am pleased to see that a good number of young men are members. I trust that many more young men will enrol."

Mr. Parry said the gun shooters in New Zealand would not be found wanting should they ba required for the defence of their country, and they were now more fit for emergency than any other section of the community. If a contest were arranged between rifle and gun shots, Mr. Parry said he considered that the latter would prove superior.

it was mentioned by the Minister that {three American woman shooters would j visit Ney Zealand next year for the centennial celebrations and he would like to see them opposed by a New 'Zealand girls' team.
