MR. R. G. ("BOB") EWING

Mr. R. G. ("Bob") Ewing, whose death occurred in the Waikato Hospital yesterday at the age of 38 years, was well known to athletes and officials in Wellington. He was prominently associated with the Kiwi Amateur Athletic Club in this city and also before he left Wellington was honorary secretary of the Wellington Amateur Athletic Centre. A good and efficient worker, and possessing a very happy personality, "Bob" Ewing had a host of friends here who will greatly regret his untimely death.

Mr. Ewing was the only surviving son of Mr. and-Mrs. Robert Ewing,] Bay View Terrace, Wellington. He joined the Defence Department as a cadet just before the Armistice, and was transferred to the Pensions Department early in 1920. Later that year he joined the Tourist Department and was stationed at .Rotorua until 1031, when he came to Wellington. He remained .in the head office until 1937, when he went to the Chateau Tongariro as stores manager. In 1938 he was transferred to Te Aroha on promotion to be manager of the depart- | mental office and spa. He was married in October last year to Miss Evelyn

Trott, daughter "of Mr. -and Mrs Charles Ttott, Austin Street, Wellington.

±;rom 1932 to 1935 he was the very energtic secretary of the- Kiwi Athletic Club in Wellington, and was largely responsible -for the club's present strong position^ In 1935 his ability ,was'recognised by his appointment as secretary of the Wellington Centre, N.Z.A.A.A.,: ah. office which he filled .with--- distinction. The Wellington Centre has had few harder- workers in the cause of athletics, and to "Bob" Ewing is largely due the fact that athletes now have Hataitai Park as a ground of their own. While stationed at Te .Aroha, Mr. Ewing was the prime mover in starting athletics in that centre, and the Te Aroha Athletic Club is a monument to his love of the sport and •. his indefatigable energy in working • for its progress. Mr. Ewing was also a keen golfer, and in addition to his work for athletics while in Wellington, he was a keen member of the Wellington Rugby Football Club.

The interment is to take place in Wellington, at Karori Cemetery, on Wednesday afternoon, following a service at Morris's chapel.
