FACTORY ACCIDENT

DAMAGES AWARDED

•General damages of £800, and £16 19s 6d special damages, have been awarded in the Supreme Court by a •jury to Douglas Arthur. William Brewer, a letterpress machinist apprentice, against the Empire Printing and Box Manufacturing Company, Ltd. The trial lasted four days, a total of £1266 19s 6d being claimed. The plaintiff lost the thumb and one finger of his left hand in an accident with a platen-cutting machine which he was working in the company's factory last August.

The Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers) presided. Mr. O. C. Mazengarb, with him Mr. W. E. Leicester, appeared for, the plaintiff, and Mr. W. Perry, with him Mr. R. E. Pope, for the defendant.
