FRENCH SPY SCANDAL
SHORTHAND WRITER'S ARREST
(Received July 29, 12.30 p.m.)
PARIS, July 28,
A shorthand writer named Amourelle, attached to the army committee, with access to secret documents, has been arrested in connection with the spy scandal. Amourelle is a member of the pacifist wing of the Socialist Party, and is a i'ormer collaborator of M. Leon Blum, the ex-Premier.
The Paris correspondent of the "Daily Worker" reported ort July 17 that responsible Paris newspapers alleged that three Cabinet Ministers were implicated in the Nazi spy and propaganda plots in France. The wife of one member of Cabinet, it was stated, had had close contact with an expelled Nazi named Abetz. The "Daily Worker" declared that any attempt by financial interests to restrict the coming inquiry would be difficult, because certain Democrats possessed documentary and other evidence which would not only startle Paris, Berlin, and Rome, but would also have grave repercussions in London and New York.
