A paragraph which recently appeared in "The Post" referred to a deep-water sole with three eyes which was caught in the Bay of Plenty and forwarded to the War Memorial Museum at Auckland. At the time it was stated to be the only example of a fish with a third eye known by the assistant director and conchologist of the museum, but "The Post" has been informed of an earlier instance of this sQrt of freak. Last, summer a herring with a perfectly-formed third eye located in the centre of the head above the other two eyes, which were normal, was caught from the wharf at Greymouth. It is believed that it is still preserved in spirits, and is to be seen in a Greymouth shop.
