LATE MR. LANGRIDGE

FUNERAL AT KARORJ

A high tribute to the service and character of the late Mr. John Langridge, curator at the Newiown Zoo, was paid by the very large attendance of city officers,, personal friends, and those who had been associated with him in connection with his duties at the memorial service at the Kent Terrace mortuary chapel and at the Karox*i Cemetery yesterday.

The pall-bearers, who acted both at the chapel and then at Karori, were Messrs. J. Scott, S. Brooker, W. Anderson, E. Scott, J. Hill, and E. Bulmer, all members of the Zoo staff. The service was conducted by the Rev. A. G. Gardiner, Presbyterian minister in Wellington South.

Among those present were the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, Councillors M. F. Luckie, T. Forsyth, R. A. Macalister, M. Fraser, P. M. Butler, W. Duncan, T. Brindle, L. McKenzie, C. H. Chapman, R. McKeen, R. A. Wright, and A. Black; Messrs. E. P. Norman (Town Clerk), K. E. Luke (City Engineer), B. O. Peterson (City Treasurer), J. G. MacKenzie (Director of Parks), R. E. Herron (Manager of the municipal milk department), M. Cable (General Manager of the Tramways and Electricity Department), J. Norrie (Chief Librarian), J. O'Shea (City Solicitor). M. S. Duckworth (Deputy Town Clerk), C. B. King (rates officer), W. S. Coppin, R. W. Parsons, T. W. James, G. Tinney, W. H. Whiting, T. W. Leslie, D. Mclntyre, M. M. Mac Donald, A. S. Pike, M. O'Grady (representing the Labourers' Union), A. L. Brewer, W. Read, R. A. Nicol (inspector for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), A. W. Milburn, T. Fathers, G. Hollis, E. Kemsley, and H. E. Palmer.

The many wreaths included those from the Mayor and City Council, the Zoo staff, the officers of the Town Clerk's department, the pupils of Standard IV, Newtown • School, the management of the Vacuum Oil Company, £he secretary and committee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and friends of Newtown Park.
