LE GROUPE FRANCAIS
Last night the Y.W.C.A. JeiGroupe f Francais celebrated the I^ete Nationale, 14 Juillet, 1939, the occasion also being , the first birthday of the club. The ! celebration took the form of a banI quet, followed by an entertainment ia French of soup, dances, and a play. The guests were received by, the president, Miss Valeric Vercoe,, | Madame R. Finlayson, and Miss E. M. Bennell; the guests of honoui* being M. Andre Pouquet, Consul for Prance, - arid Madame Pouquet. Other guests included Madame Logre. Misses E, Bell, Kissling, and Ward. The rooms were decorated in blue, white, and red, the French tricolour also being in evidence, and oh the dinner table, where Iceland poppies and spring flowers were arranged, was a birthday cake with one; candle. I Many' toasts s were given. Misa j Valeric Vercqe (toast misttes«) proposed "The King," which $ was responded to with - "July 14" by/Miss Jeanette Turnpenny and replied to by M. -Le Consul. Madame Finlayson proposed the toast of kindred Clubs; which \\ras responded to by Miss Joan Dury.. and Miss Bennell's toast to the club was replied to by Miss Bunty, Butler. -~-■■ ■-■ ■■ ;■■ .-■■ ' ■.-/';/.; ".; The programme included songs, a pfanpforte di^et by Misses Shirley Clay and Claudia Simon, group songs by Misses Myra Parsons, Gay Steeds, and Ruth Dowden, a minuet danced in costume by Jeanette Turnpenny.,; Margaret 'Ohlsen, Bunty Butler, and J Shirley Saker, and finally: a play.
