RELIGIOUS SERVICES. CHRiSTADELPHIANS. L0.0.F. HALL. ALLEN STREET (Opp. Paramount, Courtenay Place). THE FINAL LECTURE Of the Series under the Title of "TURNED UNTO FABLES" Will be delivered (God willing) in the above Hall on SUNDAY at 7 p.m., when further evidence will be produced from the Scriptures to show that the erroneous doctrines of the Churches of Christendom literally fulfil the following prediction of the Apostle Paul: "THE TIME WILL COME WHEN THEY WILL NOT ENDURE SOUND DOCTRINE. . . . THEY SHALL TURN AWAY THEIR EARS FROM THE TRUTH AND SHALL BE TURNED UNTO FABLES." (2 Tim. 4:3-4, see also 2 Pet. 2:1-2, Luke 18:8, Isa. 60:2, Isa. 25:7, Jer. 16:19.) The Subject will be:— I "THE DOCTRINE OF THE HIGHER CRITICS— A FABLE" The object of this lecture is to contrast the attitude adopted towards the Holy Scriptures by Jesus Christ, the Son of i God, and the present-day higher critics who profess to be His followers. Their i respective voices follow:— i JESUS CHRIST— (a) "If ye believe not, Moses' writings, | he**- shall ye believe My words?" (John 5:47). ! (b) "0, fools, and slow of heart to be-1 lieve all that the . Prophets have) spoken . . . and beginning at Moses and all the Prophets He expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself." (Luke 24:25-27, and verse 44). • (c) "Ye do err not knowing the Scrip- j tures" (Matt. 22:29). "The Scripture] cannot be broken." (John 10:35) "The I Scriptures must be fulfilled." (Mark j 14:49). "Search the Scriptures." ■ (John 5:39). See also what the Apostle Paul said: Acts 24:14, Acts 26:22, Acts 17:2, Acts 28:23, II Tim. 3:15-16. THE HIGHER CRITICS(a) Bishop Barnes—"We cannot maintain the traditional belief in the infallibility of the Scriptures." "There existed at present a widespread tendency to ignore or belittle, or even to repudiate, *the Old Testament."' (b) Dean Inge—"The superstition about verbal inspiration is Jewish." "Much of the Old Testament was of little religious, value today." (c) Prof. Birkett {of Cambridge)—" The churches now have more or less acknowledged that the early chapters of Genesis have no scientific authority, being merely ancient traditions and I folk tales of a small Semitic nation." "CEASE YE FROM MAN WHOSE BREATH IS IN HIS NOSTRILS: FOR WHEREIN IS HE TO BE ACCOUNTED OF." (Isa. 2:22, see also Jer. 17:5). Questions Invited. No Collection. "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God." and therefore "The Holy Scriptures are able to make wise unto salvation." (II Tim. 3:15-16). COME - YOU ARE VERY WELCOME. IS THERE A HELL? (Continued.) THE difference between those who lived in Old Testament times, and those who live in this period of Grace is this— They look forward to the finished work of Calvary—we look back. The cross of Calvary is not only the centre of time, it is also the centre of eternity. A past eternity knew no other future, a coming eternity will know no other past. When man sinned in the Garden of; Eden, God in His mercy promised to send One, Who would redeem man from the penalty of his sin. In chap. 4 of Genesis we read of the two sons of Adam, Cain and Abel. We read that Abel sacrificed a lamb, pointing forward to the Lamb of God's own providing, Who was to bear our sins in His own bpdy on the tree. 1 Peter 2:24. Abel confessed his need of a Saviour, because he was a sinner, and knew it. Cain we read brought of the fruits of the earth. that had been cursed on account of sin. Herein we get true religion, and false. One trusting in what Christ has done, the other trying to "do," U get to Heaven, and men are still following in the footsteps of Cain, who the Word of God declares was of the wicked one. Of the rich man who we have been considering in Luke 16, it is written "that in Hell he lift up his eyes being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom." The rich man will be afar off for all eternity, because he had no vision like those old worthies we read of in Heb. 11. In the Eccle. 11:3 we read that "where the tree falletb there it shall be." If the rich man who never heard the .Glorious Gospel which is proclaimed in this dispensation will be afar off, throughout all eternity, where shall those who go from these favoured lands appear? Did not the Blessed Lord tell the people of His day that it would be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of Judgment, than for those cities where His mighty works were done? Oh, the tragedy of going to Hell with the Gospel message ringing in their ears. "How shall !we escape if we neglect so great salvation?" Heb. 2:2.
