IMPORTANT GAME

ASSOCIATION CODE

CHAMPIONSHIP IN DOUBT

The Athletic Club, of Wanganui, having decided to default^to Waterside in the provincial Chatham Cup final which was originally set down for playing tomorrow, principal interest in! Wellington will be taken in 'the"championship game between Petone and Hospital on No. '1 ground at the Basin Reserve.

Petone are at present .heading the championship table with a game in hand, their nearest rivals being Waterside, who are only one point behind but have played the extra game. At this stage in the season there is little hope of any other team but Petone or Waterside taking" the championship honour, and; every other match in which these elevens participate from now on will have a vital bearing on , the question of which team will be Wellington champions. Petone have the better record so far, but tomorrow's game may upset them, as when they previously met Hospital the result was a 1-all draw. Since then • Hospital have improved considerably, an example being their defeat of the. Waterside team by 2 goals to 0, and Petone cannot take them lightly. After Leslie's brilliant display at centre-forward for I Wellington against Auckland recently he will be watched with interest tomorrow, as also will Haines, the Petone full-back, who was another to earn J praise in Auckland. On the Hospital side Jeffrey, Todd, and Wyatt are players who should be to the forefront. On the other ground at the Basin Reserve Waterside will meet Diamond, and though there is a fair margin between the capabilities of the two teams j the unexpected may happen. If Waterside want to take the championship from Petone they will have to win tomorrow. • " -L- ■ , .Seatoun are to play Technical; Old Boys at Seatoun Park, and at Kelburn i j the game will be between Swifts and Marist.
