A SPRINTER OF CLASS

(Special from "Early Bird.")

AUCKLAND, July 27.

Imperator continues to work along nicely at Ellerslie, and he is going to be one of the hardest to dispose of in the non-winning class in the spring. He is very forward now, and the halfbrother to Scotland and Odtaa will be given his initial race at the Pakuranga Meeting in three weeks' time. He should prove a good advertisement for his sire, Sargon.

A good galloper that has failed to perform up to expectations is First Gold Money, but, like so many others in this category, it is probable that she will appreciate the change of quarters from Ellerslie to Takanini.

After giving a surprisingly good showing in one of the hack plates at Ellerslie in the summer, Estro looked a certainty for an early stake. Unfortunately the filly ricked herself, and not much has been seen of her. According to Takanini advices she is making progress, and something good may be expected of her before the new season is very far advanced. The two-year r old Foxbridge - colt Water Fox has developed considerably since he last raced, and he must now be one of the biggest of his sire's progeny about. His three outings to date" were unproductive but not without promise, and now that he has been given the time to furnish he should make good at three years. His dam, Rippling Waters, was very fast, winning the A.R.C. Welcome Stakes,,but she did not train on. She comes from a fine family of winners, her second dam. The Boyne, having produced Rewi Poto (who dead-heated in the Wellington Cup, and won the Hapier Cup, Rangitikei Cup, and Egmont Stakes), Paraoa (Feilding Cup), and Prince Rufus.

Vahmeen concluded her three-year-old season very satisfactorily, whining her last two races. A feature of her success at Te Rapa was the fact that she was headed off half-way up the straight and was then able to come f§am and score narrowly. Prior •to h?f 5f r %tar^ a was under suspicion, but the doubt\was removed, and she will now enter upon her four-year-old career as a possibility over middle dist<uiccs«
