The House of Commons, after a stormy debate, approved by 357 votes to 164 the Government's decision to investigate without delay the higher old-age pensions. Mr. Chamberlain pointed out that the House of Commons I had not yet fully realised the burden iof the defence programme and the Government would not light-heartedly add to the load.
