ICE CREAM CONFERENCE
The comment that it struck him afc somewhat extraordinary that business men engaged in the ice-cream industry should meet on such a cold day to advertise their product was made by the Mayor (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop), when opening the annual conference of the New Zealand Wholesale Ice Cream Manufacturers' Association yesterday afternoon.
Mr. F. H. Wright, of Christchurch, who presided over an attendance of more than 30 delegates from different parts of the Dominion, replied that it was the association's object to encourage people to use ice cream in the winter time.
Businesses such as that conducted by the City Corporation electricity department were doing well, Mr Hislop said, and he could not conceive of many people ordering ice cream products .that day. On the other '.and he expected that an enormous quantity of ice-cream products would be consumed in Wellington during the time of the Exhibition. The industry jv'as an important one, there being about £750.000 invested in it, and it was of benefit to other businesses, such as that of the City Corporation milk department. Mr. Hislop invited the delegates *& visit the Exhibition buildings. Representative business men from other parts of New Zealand who had visited the buildings with him had been astounded at the scope of the Exhibition and at the stage of development reached. As far as the Exhibition Com--panv was concerned everything would be in readiness by opening day and if exhibitors were wise they would create a world record by opening the Exhibition without a hammer going anywhere
in the grounds,
