STRUCK BY BALL
CADDIE'S LUCKY ESCAPE
An extraordinarily lucky escape! from serious injury was experienced by a caddie at one of the leading Wellington golf links on Saturday. The youth was holding the pin at one of the well-bunkered greens, and seventeen feet away in one of the bunkers the person for whom he was caddying (a 10 handicap player, incidentally) decided to play a powerful, explosion shot, the idea being for the ball to pop daintily on to the green and perhaps trickle up in the neighbourhood of the hole. Unfortunately, the "explosion" failed to eventuate and with terrific power he lifted; the ball clean—clean on to his caddie's temple, Apart from a lump as large as an egg on his forehead ho was unhurt. He was able to return to school this week. . .
Not the least tragic incident, however, was the rebound of the ball from the boy's head seventeen feet back into the bunker.
