NOVELTY SPRING PRINTS

PLEATED ON THE ROLL

Wheather there are little pirates with skulls and crossbones dancing all over your new spring frocks, or gay couples riding tandem bicycles, they will abound with the most brilliant colours this season,, states the "Sydney Morning Herald." At an advance showing of spring fabrics which opened recently, colour combinations were emphasised in all linens, which are described as creaseresisting, water repellent, spot proof, and fadeless. Although the linens are so practical, they are in no way less attractive in texture. Paris designers are favouring linen for sports wear, and the imported linens include drawnthread and knotted weaves, especially suitable for suits and jackets. •

New are the imported silks which are already pleated on the roll, and may be made up on either side. The design is printed on the material after it has "been pleated, and when it is spread out fan wise gives a striped effect. All the flowers that bloom in the spring seem to have been massed together on some of the chiffons and silks for evening. Many of the. flowers are hand-printed on the silks and give a batik effect.

One of the most attractive prints in crepe de chine is called "Bonnet over the Windmill," which depicts coloured bonnets sailing over miniature windmills. The pattern on another silk depicts figures doing steps from the "Lambeth Walk," with the men dressed in bright green dinner suits and the girls in red and yellow gowns.

A shaving brush provides an easy and safe way for washing small china ornaments.
