COMPULSORY SUBSCRIPTION

Mason) the following question:— ; Whether he was aware that workers in various parts of the Dominion who had been compelled by the Government's legislation to enrol in trades unions in order to obtain employment in their trades and callings were being con strained to subscribe to shares in pro J posed Labour daily newspapers i whether they wished to or not, and I were also being threatened with fines if they failed to attend meetings of the unions, and, further, that those members alleged that they dare not protest 'under fear of victimisation. If so, | what steps did the Minister propose to take to restore to those people the liberty of action and freedom of choice which, under the British Constitution, had hitherto been the privilege of a British subject? !
