REMITS CARRIED

COUNTIES' CONFERENCE

Remits adopted by the biennial conference of the New Zealand Counties Association today included the following:—

"That the Counties' Act be amended to provide for a fixed allowance of £1 Is per diem, plus 8d per mile, be^ ing paid to councillors attending council meetings."

"That the travelling allowance of county chairmen be increased to a maximum of £200."

"That the limit for unauthorised expenditure for counties be extended' to £200."

"That the Government be asked to amend the Physical Welfare and Recreation Act, 1937, by deleting the clause which gives local authorities power to raise a loan without taking a poll. That the Act be so amended as to provide that the full costs of administration of the Act are borne by the Government from funds appropriated for that purpose from time to time, and not by local bodies from t.h^ir- ordinary funds."

"That the Government be again urged to combat the kea menace in the Mount Cook area and increase its subsidy to 5s per head."

"That this association most emphatically opposes the granting of universal suff^^ein all county elections."
