SHIPPING AFFECTED

The Maori did not arrive at Wellington from Lyttelton until 9 a.m today. She reported heavy south-south-westerly winds, often reaching g-3le iorce, and very high seas. The Maori was delayed in her departure from Lyttelton last aight waiting tor the express from Dunedin. and would have arrived here on time had she left at the usual hour. T^ei-e were four or five inches of snow on the deck and wharf when she left Lyttelton last n'ght.

The Waikouaiti. which arrived at Wellington late lasi night from Sydney also encountered heavy seas and strong vvi"ds.

The Rangitata. en route from London to Wellington sent a wireless mes sage this morning to say fhai she was oraot'oally hove to off Cape Palliser and that the time of her arrival was doubtful She was due at Wellington at 7 am.

The Kaitoa left Wellington last night but was forced to return oving to the rough weather She and fhe Arahura will leave tonight from here. The Kaitoa will remain at Nelson tomorrow night and leave for Wellington ag^in on Saturday night.

The Kaimai, which sought shelter in Worser Bay yesterday while en route from Westport to Auckland, resumed her voyage last night, tut this morn ing a message was received from her to say that she wa*> returning to port

The Sussex, which left Wellington on Tuesday night for Lyttelton. is reported to be standing off Lyttelton.

The Eastbourne Borough Council's forry steamer Muritai was affected by the rough weather this morning and was unable to berth at Rona Bay. She left Day's Bay shortly before 8 a.m. for Rona Bay. but when it was found that she could not get into the wharf there because of the southerly she returned to Day's Bay. The passengers were taken from Rona Bay to th.3 Muribv by bus. The Muritai arrived at Wellington at 9 a.m., twenty minutes late.
