ASSOCIATION TOUR
SOUTH AFRICAN TEAM
PROPOSAL FOR NEXT YEAR
The intention of the Australian Soccer Football Association to invite a South African side to tour Australia in 1940 was notified by the Australian Association to the Council of the New Zealand Football Association in a letter received by a meeting of the council last night. New Zealand was offered the South African team for four Saturday and four mid-week games at a pro rata cost of overhead expenses. South Africa had been informed of the offer. "We have asked the South African team to arrive in Australia about the middle of May, 1940, and it would be about the middle of June when they would Toe expected to tour New Zealand, or perhaps the end of June," said the Australian letter. Concerning the proposed Australian school tour of the Dominion next year the letter said that while the Australian Association was in agreement with the principle, it could not undertake, the tour during 1940, but would consider a tour in 1941. The council will consider the South African proposal. BROWN SHIELD. The council decided to ask the South Auckland Association to reconsider its decision. . ~. It was decided that the Wellington Inter-house Association could not challenge for the Brown Shield. Mr. Frank Campbell presided over the council meeting, and there were also present Messrs. B. Martm, E. Hollis, W. L. Wilson, J. H. Dick, J. V., Walls, H. H. A. Renai, and the secre- j tary, Mr. Alf.
