BOTH GRAND NATIONALS
Green Cape, winner of the Victoria Racing Club Grand National Hurdles at Flemington last Saturday, was favourite for the race when the last mail left Melbourne. He is trained at Flemington by W. Burke for the owner, who races under the assumed name of L. Street. He was tried over hurdles earlier in his career, but his best performance was a second placing. He, however, took to steeplechasing quickly, and one of his successes last year was in the Victorian Grand: National Steeplechase. He has been placed only once since that victory, but his favouritism was-''encouraged by a goodj effort in a race won by Pooley Bridge j at Caulfield a few weeks ago. 4 Cape Race, who filled third place to Green Cape, is New Zealand bred, and he was also in keen demand following a good -race at Caulfield. A Cape Horn—Rag Fair gelding, he was first raced in Australia-by his breeder, Mr. W. R. Kemball, for whom he won hurdle races as a three-year-old. and but for meeting with a serious accident while schooling at Caulfield two years ago he would have built up a big record and would probably have been retained by Mr. Kemball. He now carries the colours of Mr. R. H, Smylhe.
