NO LICENCE
EXHIBITION HOTEL
When the question of a formal deed between the City Council and the Exhibition Company regarding the City Council's contribution of £5000 came before the council last night, Councillor M. Fraser said that he would like to have an assurance that no licence would be granted; in connection with the hotel. Only upon this being guaranteed would he give his consent. The Mayor: I do not know what is perturbing you in that matter. It is in a No-licence area to begin with. ' Councillor R. A. Wright: There are strong rumours that a licence is to be granted in connection with the hotel. The Mayor: It is like many other I rumours. The idea has never been | suggested. I Councillor Fraser: I raised the ques- ; tion for very good grounds. I would be a dissenting party to this if a licence is to be wangled. Legislation has been passed before now for temporary ! licences. j Mr. Hislop: You need have no i qualms. The rumours have been stated jby people who, know nothing about it.
