LITTLE TIME LEFT
A total of 162 further shares were allotted at the monthly meeting of the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition Company today. It has been decided that the Welsh Guards Band shall be accommodated in the new hotel at Kilbimie. . The Exhibition Company has been fortunate in getting all the main {building erected and practically 'finished outside before the onset of the i worst winter weather. In any case, ! activities would now be restricted to jwork inside the buildings, and there ;is ample cause for exhibitors to proceed with the erection of their stands forthwith. Only four months remain before the opening of the Exhibition ;on November 8, and, so far, very few stands are up. Exhibitors may have in mind the risks that goods might face if put into the Exhibition too soon, but this is another matter. There is nothing to prevent the stalls and stands being erected immediately. The goods or displays can go in later, but i unless those who have taken | space make more progress in getting their stands . ready,. there will be an undesirable mingling of carpentry and the arrangement of displays, which can only hamper both. The general manager of the Exhibition, Mr. C. P. Hainsworth, issues an appeal to all exhibitors who have not done so to get ahead with their stands at once. Exhibitors are advised that all packages containing goods for exhibition must bear a distinctive mark, and the name, address, and building and block number of the exhibitor. Special labels are free at the Exhibition offices. Each stand will not be numbered, but all locations will be by building arid block number. Goods must on no account be consigned to the company. Regarding? labour conditions at the Exhibition, special regulations . introduced by the Labour Department specify starting and ceasing times, the payment of overtime, provisions for certain holidays, minimum age for males working after 10.30 p.m., and the prohibition of any female from working in or about the Exhibition after 10.30 pan. CONCESSIONS TO EXHIBITORS. Various concessions are made exhibitors. Shipping companies, while charged full freight rates from the United Kingdom..to New Zealand for the usual commercial exhibits and for loan exhibits of a non-commercial character, allow half the outward rate on returns of commercial exhibits, and free freight for non-commercial exhibits.. The New Zealand Railways will carry bona fide exhibits free of charge at the sole risk of the owners, if addressed "For Exhibition at the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition," and will convey exhibits free on the return journey, if they are accompanied by a certificate that no sale or exchange has been effected. Should any portion of the exhibit be sold, the full ordinary railway charges will be imposed on the whole of the exhibits as originally consigned and also on the unsold portion which is returned. Goods imported for exhibition only at the Centennial Exhibition and entered to be warehoused in the Exhibition Bond are exempted from the requirements of a licence under the import regulations. Customs arrangements in regard to goods for sale stipulate that duty and sales tax on goods "intended for sale" shall be deposited before they are either exhibited or sold. Exemptions from duty and sales tax-apply to pictures and works of art sold to public institutions, and samples of small value, advertising articles, and matter relating to overseas exhibits imported from overseas, if distributed free in the Exhibition. [ In the case of exhibitors who wish Ito have the right of selling, a 10 per cent, charge of gross takings (5 per cent, in the case of tobacco and cigari ettes) in addition to the ordinary space charges, will be made.
