GERMANS CONTINUE TO ARRIVE

POLAND FULLY SATISFIED

ASSURANCES BY BRITAIN

(By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright.) (Received July 3, 11.15 a.m.)

LONDON, Jtily 2. Danzig reports that the situation caused by the infiltration of Germans to the Free City has not deteriorated, but that the tension persists. Numbers of so-called German tourists continue to arrive, but the Polish Government is calm and fully satisfied with the British assurances. The Nazi district leader, Herr Forster, declared that the populace was united to a man in the wish to return to Germany, and would do so. The people were being prepared to make any sacrifice to that end, including their lives. The Government spokesman in Warsaw said that any act of violence in Danzig, initiated from within or without, would be regarded as a ground for war. . Reuters' correspondent in Danzigstates that German army leaders have arrived in mufti to take over the command of the Free Corps. A corps of storm troopers is already patrolling the streets under the guise of the home army. The Danzig leaders met in conference, Herr Forster presiding. Representatives of all Nazi Party formations attended and also the newly-arrived Free Corps officers. Rifles and machineguns are being distributed throughout the city. The City Hall has been converted into an arsenal. Twelve trucks on Friday conveyed arms to the Werder district in the southern corner of the Free City. ANXIETY IN PARIS. 'A French Cabinet communique says that Premier Daladier has informed the Cabinet of the general situation, which is very serious, and explained measures to strengthen France's action and to dispel the doubts entertained concerning it. It is understood the French Cabinet has decided to back Poland fully in the event of a move against Danzig. Cabinet appropriated a further £24,237,237 for armaments. Marshal Gamelin has been recalled to Paris. A Whitehall spokesman stated that if the Danzig Senate voted to include the Free City in the Reich and Poland marched into Danzig as .a result, Poland would be supported to the hilt by Britain and France. "Let there be not the faintest doubt about that," he added. Reports were current on Saturday in London and Paris that a Nazi coup in Danzig was contemplated at the weekend. The English and French Governments consulted late on Friday night and were ready for any eventuality.
