Though thd Auckland forwards! were outplayed by the Waikato pack, the home side was Victorious by 11 points to 5 In a Hilgby representative match at Eden Park this afternoon. The contest was a return game, Wai* kato having been beaten by Auckland in Hamilton on June 6by 31-12.. The deciding factor in ail exciting game Was the brilliance of tHe Auckland backs oil the very heavy and slippery ground. \Valkdtb (indisputably had the territorial honours and were unlucky not to have scored on at least'three occasions. Auckland opened the scoring 28 minutes iiffer the start, when Carson scored a try <vltieh was converted by Pearman with 0 fine sirio-llne kick. Shortly after the interval Waibato evened the score with a try by ilaftnagnn, Aitkeii converting, A few minutes later Auckland again took the lead after McLean had run 50 yards to score an uuconverted try. Waikato's solid efforts were of no avail, and towards the finish Gilmore put the issue beyond, doubt with an unconverted try. The Auckland first five-eighth. «. Pearman, initiated one scoring movement and was responsible for gaining much ground. L. benubert. the Auckland winner, had W. J. Phillips, the All Black, too well marked for the latter to dispay his forth, and .1. Dick, the other, home winger, was kept well in check by C; Perkins. I>.
