SEVERE DRUBBING
BOXER IN HOSPITAL
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) I. ' DUNEDIN, July 2. Fighting at the top of his form, Billy Parris scored a convincing victory over Barney Down on Saturday night, administering one of the severest drubbings a boxer has ever received in a Dunedin ring. With the possible exception of the first, Parris easily won every round and at the end of the eighth round Down was so far gone that it is doubtful whether he should have been allowed to continue. As soon as the gong went for the ninth round Parris connected with a left to the body and a right to the i head and then drove a terrific left to the chin, sending Down to the canvas. His head struck heavily, and though he gamely attempted to rise, the referee had no alternative but to stop the fight. Down collapsed on the way to nis corner and was subsequently admitted to hospital suffering from concussion. His condition today was much improved and he will be able to leave hospital in a day or two.
