Engagement- Announced.
The engagement is announced between Donald Hamish Cameron, jun., of Lochiel, and Margaret, only daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel the Hon. Nigel and Mrs. Gathorne-Hardy, Greys End, Rotherfield Greys, Henley-on-Thames, states "The Post's" London correspondent. The father of the bride-fo-be was on the staff of Government House, Wellington, from 1907----1910; her'mother was formerly Miss Doris Johnston, daughter of the Hon. Sir Charles and Lady Johnston. Eastbourne Plunket Party. With their annual ball on August 5 as the climax, the ladies of Eastbourne are busily engaged in holding a series of cheery parties to give the ball itself
a flying start with all expenses already accounted for. At the home.of Miss Isaacs a most successful party was held recently, when . the . hostesses were [ Misses E. and ; M. Isaacs and Mesdames [D.N. Isaacs and V. G. Jervis. Over I fifty people met in the lounge, which was decorated with beautiful spring flowers in shades of pink • and mauve. Afternoon tea was served arid the numerous ' competitions provided unlimited entertainment for everyone, resulting in a very pleasant and remunerative afternoon. Among the guests were Mesdames C. Jumble Sale at Northland. The Northland sub-committee of the Plunket Society has again been busy with an effort to raise funds towards its quota, the effort this time being in the form of a jumble sale. The thanks of the committee were extended to the many friends who so kindly gave parcels, the contents of which readily sold, resulting in a very satisfactory total. ■ ' -.....-■ Death in Cornwall. News reached London on June 5 of the death, at Pendean, Liskeard, Cornwall, of Oonah, wife of Mr. A. de C. Glubb, the well-known architect, states "The Post's" London correspondent. Mrs. Glubb, who had been ill for &\ considerable time, was formerly Miss FitzGerald of Wellington, and sister of! Miss Elice FitzGerald,\ reception officer for a number of years at New Zea- j land House. When Miss FitzGerald retired recently; she went to Cornwall to be with her sister. Mrs. Glubb died j on June 4. Takapau Hunt Club Ball. Cocktail parties and gay buffet dinner parties organised by many Central Hawke's Bay hostesses, paved the way for the very successful Hunt Club Ball, organised by the Takapau members of the Danneyirke Hunt Club, which was held on Friday in the Takapau Hall, such an auspicious occasion attracting the hunting, enthusiasts and their friends from many parts of Hawke's Bay, all being determined to make the evening a happy' and .gay one. The ball was organised by Mesdames D. Holden and P. F. Wall, with Mr. A. F. Harris as secretary. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. G. Hbbson, Mr. and Mrs. D. Holden, and Mr. A. P. White (master of the Hawke's Bay Hunt), and Mrs. White. A Popular Girl. A party was given recently at the Salvation Army Men's Hostel in honour of Miss Eileen Penny's twenty-first birthday. The party was given by the management. Many amusing games were played and Miss Penny, who is a very popular girl in the hostel,, was the recipient of a number of presents, among which was a beautiful set of brushes.comb, and mirror, presented to her on behalf, of the staff. A cake with twenty-one candles, and a golden key; on which the many guests wi'ote their names, were also among the gifts. Social and Dance. Miss Phyllis Oliver's studio was the rendezvous of the staff of Makower, Mcßeath and Co., Ltd., recently, on the occasion of a social and dance. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr. A. Williams. Competitions and dances of a bright and breezy nature all went to making the evening a great success. Winners, of the various competitions were Misses Gwen Hollings and Betty Urquhart and Messrs. Ken Stammers, K. Chambers, and P. Simpson. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. J. Jerram, Mr. and Mrs. A. Barritt, Mr. and Mrs. K. Chambers, Mr. and Mrs. F. Oliff, Mr. and Mrs. C. Rogers, Dougall, Flaws, Flux, Vivian, Hill, King, Simpson, Blake, Gendall, Stammers, Crockford, Searle, Paul, Edgecombe, and Collin. Miramar Bring and Buy. To further augment the funds of the Miramar branch of the Plunket Society a most successful "bring and buy" afternoon, convened by Mesdames A. Wild and T. Young, was held at ri»e former's residence, Totara Road, Miramar, recently. A "fish pond" and a varied programme of competitions were features of the afternoon. At the conclusion Mrs. Wild thanked those present for their support. The large

Many of the guests who gathered in the Amuri district last year ior the first ball held by the bachelors of the district v since the Great War, were[ among those who enjoyed the hos-l pitality of the Amuri bachelors at their j second annual ball held on Friday night in the Hanmer Hall, states the Christchurch "Press." Parties of young people motored from Christchurch and, other parts of Canterbury for the event, confident of the warm welcome that
awaited them from country hosts and hostesses. The hall was gaily decorated for the occasion. There were two debutantes—Miss Elspeth Burbury, eldest daughter of Mr. and .Mrs. E. P. H. Burbury ("Sherwood," Waiau), and Miss Shoria Macfarlane, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs.. L. .R. C. Macfarlane ("Kaiwarra," Culverden). The hosts were Messrs. J. .W. Jameson (honorary,secretary), F. Many young people from various parts of Canterbury who motored to Hanmer Springs for, the ball on Friday, enjoyed the hospitality of Amuri hostesses, and several " t dinner parties were given before the; ball. In honour of their debutante, daughters, Mr. and' Mrs. Burbury and Mr: and Mrs. Macfarlane gave a large dinner party at "The Lodge," Hanmer Springs. St. Giles' Women's Association. At the recent meeting of the Women's Association of St. Giles' Presbyterian Church, Kilbirnie Crescent, members and visitors were welcomed at the hall door by Mesdames Armstrong and Brown. The business was conducted by the president, Mrs. E. Chappell, and the report of last month's meeting was! read by the secretary, Mrs. C. B. King, j Nominations for the executive for the "coming year were received. A' one-! act play, "A Marriage Has been Disarranged," was well read by: members of the St. Giles' Play-reading Club and later a vote of^ thanks was accorded to Mrs. Neil Jack, leader, and her] readers. Afternoon tea was served j by Mesdames Capper, Melvin, andj Squire. Coming-of-Age Party. A pleasant evening was spent at the N.Z.E.I. Rooms recently, when Mr. and Mrs. R. W. McJehnett entertained 50 guests to celebrate the coming-of-age of their younger daughter, Grace. The hostess wore a frock of floral French silk, and her daughter was wearing pink lace with a shoulder spray of pink: carnations. Mr- O. Conibear was master -of ceremonies and items were given by Mr. and Mrs. R. Anderson, Misses J. Reynolds, and E. Ledger, and Messrs. M. Pumfrey arid T. Cocks.'Accompaniments were played by Miss J.
