AWAPUNI TRIALS

CLASSFORM'S GOOD FIVE

(Special to the "Evening Post.")

PALMERSTrON N, This Day. Conditions were perfect for track work at Awapuni on Saturday morning, the weather being fine and the going firmer than on Thursday. The course proper was open, • the flags being about 15 feet out.

Tidewaiter and Quadroon were partnered over seven furlongs. With the former on the outer and giving away some weight, they ran the first two furlongs in 27 2-ssec, half a mile in 54 3-ssec, and they came home strongly, but with something in reserve, to complete in Imin 36sec.

Catalogue went with Old Surrey over six furlongs. They ran the first three furlongs in 40 3-ssec, and the last three in 40 l-ssec, to complete in Imin 20 4-ssec. Catalogue has not had much galloping, but he improves with every outing. Old Surrey covered a bit of extra ground, but he finished very well. i

Sporting Gift sprinted five furlongs in good style, but it was not possible to time him. He did his work like a tradesman, and is in excellent order for Trentham. It is possible that B. H. Morris will ride him in his engagements.

Erebus was allowed to bowl along over a mile, being speeded up to run the last three furlongs in 42sec. Power Chief was galloped a mile with Raeburn and Colonel Bogey, the last-named being on the outer. They were together all the way, and after travelling half a mile in 57Jsec, they came home strongly to run the last seven furlongs ii. Imin 41sec. All worked well.

Malik Kafur was just in front of Patahi at the end of five furlongs in lmin Bsec, and Snigger accomplished a similar task in lmin 6 4-ssec.

A good effort was that of Glassform, who slipped over five furlongs in Imin 6 4-ssec, breaking 40sec for the last three. ■, ■ •
