SHOCKS TO MARKET
PROFITS MAY IMPROVE

In the light of the grim exchequer figures, combined with, the disturbing political news, it is not surprising that the stock and share markets have lost all the ground gained during May. Moreover, company profits do not yet reflect improving trade. Profits, however, should tend to go upward in the next half-year, beginning in the engineering industry and spreading to the consumption industries as inflation gains hold of world economy and thence to pass on to the metal and commodity businesses.
