FINE BOWLING EFFORTS
For the second time" this season Gloucestershire beat Yorkshire, last year's champions, in the English county cricket series this week. A great bowling performance, by Goddard was largely responsible, Goddard taking six for 61 and seven for 38. In Gloucestershire's first innings Verity -\ took seven for 47. When these teams met earlier in the"* season at Bradford Gloucestershire won by six wickets, this being the only other reverse sustained by Yorkshire. Another remarkable bowling effort was that of James Langridge, who took five wickets for 3 runs in Derbyshire's second innings, enabling Sussex to win by 13 runs. The most successful batsmen were Payhter (Lancashire) and Fagg (Kent), while Lomas (Oxford University) also ran up a big score against the M.C.C. Nottinghamshire won on the first innings. M.C.C. v. Oxford University, at Lord's (two days).—M.C.C. 269 for seven, declared (Edrich 91) and 199. Oxford 339 for. six, declared (Lomas 138).
