THE CONSCRIPTION DECISION

RUGBY, May 20,
Mr. R. S. Hudson, Secretary of the Department of Overseas Trade, arrived in London from New York today, where he assisted at the inauguration of the British Pavilion at the World's Fair. He departed at once by air for the Paris Exhibition. ~
During his visit to the United States he spent a day in Washington, and there had useful talks with, the United States Secretary of State, Mr. Cordell Hull, and with the Secretary of Commerce, Mr. Harry Hopkins, as well as with other Government - officials. Everywhere, said Mr. Hudson, he had found the greatest interest in the European situation, especially in Britain's state of preparedness.
"There is no doubt in my. mind," he said, "that what is regarded as the firmer line we have taken lately in our foreign policy, especially in bur acceptance in time of peace of compulsory Service, has greatly impressed public opinion in the United States."
