NEWTOWN V. PETONE
Obtaining possession in the ■ majority of scrums, the Petone backs time and again swept all before them, scoring ten of the eleven tries against Xewtown on Saturday. Newtown were slow to get going. Towards the end of the game they showed improvement, their handling and tackling being better. Within, fire minutes of the start of the game Clark scored in the corner. Petone quickly added two more tries before Newtown forced them hack into their own twenty-live, where McLennon opened Xewtown's account from a penalty in front of the posts. The strong wind blowing across the field was troubling Petone and Xewtown carried play back into Petone's territory, where Chambers received the ball to go over for a good try. Coman, the Petone captain, then appeared in the picture to make a tricky run down the field "and to hand on to Patrick, wlio went across in the corner. At half-time the score was: Petone 16, Xewtown 5.
The second spell was only in progress a few minutes when Reierson received the ball, and, cutting in nicely, went across for a fine try. Petone then took a hand in attack and from (hen on they, practically dominated the game. The final score was: Petone 47, Xewtown 15. Tries for Petone were scored by Clark (3), Patrick (3), O'Connor (2),;Coman, Holland, and Beban. Conversions: Coman (3), Clark (3), and Perkinson. For Xewtown, Reierson (2) and Chambers scored, and McLennon converted two and Holmes one.
