CHILDREN'S PLAY AREA

The board of management of the Wellington Printing and Related Trades Union, at its meeting on Thursday evening, passed a resolution deploring the fact that the Wellington Hospital Board had decided to close down the children's play area in Newtown. "We consider it to be a retrograde step in the interests of the children's •health, and is not in conformity with the Government's policy of physical fitness," the resolution continued. "We therefore request the members of the Wellington Hospital Board to reconsider their previous decision; and if the said area is required for hospital purposes, to co-operate with the Government in re-erecting the play area iin a nearby locality; and withhold the notice to quit until such time as it is absolutely necessary to give effect thereto. Furthermore, that the playing area be open to the children on Sundays."
