QUEEN CARNIVAL
HUTT VALLEY EFFORT
The result of the queen carnival effort in aid of the Hutt Valley centennial fund was announced last evening, the Motor Industries' Queen, Miss N. Whiteman, being declared the winner with 253,793 votes. Other contestants followed in this order: Manufacturers (Miss M. Taylor), 212,112; Women's Organisation (Mrs. Bradley), 86,930; Business and Professions (Miss E. Darby), 84,084; Sports (Miss M. Howe), 78,586; Railways (Miss Briggs), 77,440; R.S.A. (Miss J. Cowie), 37,452. Mr. H. E. Mcßain, chairman of the queen carnival committee, stated that the committee is exceedingly pleased with the result, and wishes to thank the various queens and their helpers. Each vote represents a penny and the amount raised will be a net gain for the Centennial fund. The successful queen will have two Coronation ceremonies, at Petone on Monday, and at Lower Hutt on Tuesday.
