BUSH DESTROYED

Concern at the destruction of native bush. by "fire was expressed' at. a meeting of the. Hutt County Council yesterday afternoon. The. county: overseer said that last month there had been fires in the. county, . and some good stands of native bush had been destroyed. Not only were the hillsides bared and left to the ravages of the weather with the consequent danger of boulders falling on to roads, but from tha beautifying aspect the destruction of the bush was to be deplored. Bush had been destroyed atKaitoke arid on the Western Hutt Road. The suggestion "was made that' the help should be obtained of interested organisations in the preservation of the bush, and that transport officers on patrol might give the alarm when they observed fires likely to endanger bush.
