OUT OF SEASON

BOYS' CRICKET MATCH

Although out of season, a cricket match played at the Wellington College grounds today had some interesting features. The teams were from the New Plymouth Boys' High School and the Wellington Boys' Institute, and the matting wicket which was used gave them a new experience. New Plymouth won, mainly through.the batting of a young newcomer to cricket, a Maori boy named Jenkins. He made his first match a notable one by hitting up top score —37 out of 71 made by the visiting side. The Institute' boys made 59. Some fine bowling figures were recorded, Hayman being most successful in taking five wickets for 6 runs for the visitors. For Boys' Institute, Holmes, Kay, Shaw, and Simpson each took two wickets, as did Muir and Peacock for New Plymouth. One of the umpires was the Wellington Cricket Association's coach, Roy Shef* field.
