ST. GILES'S CHURCH
INDUCTION OF MINISTER
The induction of the Rev. A. W. Armstrong to the charge of St. Giles's Presbyterian Church, Kilbirnie, took place on Wednesday evening. The Moderator of the Wellington Presbytery, the Rev. Dr. Lan Fraser, presided'and opened the service with prayer and praise
The Rev. J. C. McCaw preached to the congregation, and the Rev. A. G. Gardiner, according to custom, put the questions of doctrine to Mr. - Armstrong. The Rev. R. Inglis then read the formula and requested Mr. Armstrong's signature, after which he was declared inducted .to his new charge. Addresses followed to both minister and congregation by the Rev. A. G. Gardiner, interim moderator. At the conclusion of the service the large congregation retired to the church hall, where Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong, Miss Armstrong, and the k two younger sons were welcomed by representatives of the numerous organisations of the church and by visiting clergy. Mrs. and Miss Armstrong were presented with dainty posies made by Mrs. Cowan.
Mr. Armstrong thanked all for their warm welcome, both at the manse and at the function.
The Rev. D. M. Hercus (late interim moderator), who had come from Marlborough to be present at the induction, was presented with a cheque by Mr. R. Napier, session clerk, who thanked him for his many months of service to St. Giles's. Mr. Hercus replied suitably. Supper followed, and many people remained to exchange greetings. Vocal items were contributed by. Mrs. W. H. Stirrat. .
