STAMBOUL AMISS
GINGER JACK'S GOOD FORM
(Special from "Irvington.")
CHRISTCHURCH, May 19.
Although it was recently announced that Evicus was to return to Australia, this mare is still in work at Addington undes J. Young. The necessary aerangements for her departure were made, but apparently plans for her future have been altered, and she is to be given a further chance in Canterbury. While she bears a welltrained appearance, it is some time since she showed attractive form, and her unsoundness does not make her a bright proposition. Following his fall in the Railway Handicap at the Forbury Park Meeting last Saturday, Stamboul was too lame to rail back to Addington. Although it is not known for certain at the time of writing, it is feared that he has broken a bone in his knee, and that being the case he will have to be destroyed. By Frank Worthy from Trix Pointer, he has the breeding of a champion, and while he has not proved outstanding to date, he has been a useful performer and has given indications of improving. After a useful spell in the paddock, Isobel Derby has been placed in work at Addington under J. J. Kennerley. Although inclined to moodiness, at her best she is a mare of great possibilities, while she has freshened up considerably during her absence from the tracks. . .' . •

Berry has Teviot Downs moving well in his work at Addington, and this trotter is moving with- a better action than formerly. However, he is on a fairly tight mark and is now at an age when he cannot be expected to show any improvement on his best. RETURNED TO SOUTHLAND. ■ During his short period in Canterbury Silver Laddie earned the private reputation of being above the average, but his poor showings at the recent Forbury Park Meeting convinced his connections that he leaves much to be desired, and he was returned to Southland. — _ .• A recent addition to R. J. Humphrey's Templeton stable is Bingen Palm, a pacer who has shown little attractive form since reaching the best classes. At his best he was good over most distances, and it will be interesting to observe whether he can stage a return to form. E. Carlyon is handling a rising two-year-old filly by Wrack from a Paul Huon mare, who has earned fame as the dam of the champion trotter Sea Gift. This filly, who promises to be a trotter, resembles her sister, and she will be turned out for a short spell before being asked to do any serious training. Maltravers has been under several
