THE PUBLIC SERVICE

NON-PERMANENT CLERKS

{By Telegraph-—Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, May 19,

The attitude of the Public Service Commissioner, Mr. T. Mark, towards the establishment of an association of non-permanent clerks in the Public Service has been revealed during his visit to Auckland. The Commissioner has advised the Public Service Association that he will not grant recognition to any association of temporary employees and that any representations from any branch of the service will require to be made, as in the. past, through the Public Service Association, which, he states, is the sole channel of communication on general questions affecting all officers under his control, both permanent and temporary.

It is understood that the movement to form an organisation of non-perma-nent employees in the service originated in Christchurch, and that members similarly employed in Auckland were invited to assist in its formation. The majority of those affected in Auckland are engaged in the employment branch of the Social Security Department and a small number are in the Housing Construction Department.
