You- guessed it ... Myrna Loy. . . . But, Folks, I don't need Loy . . . I've got somethin' . . . AND I MEAN SOMETHIN' . . . that will leave Powell looking like very small change . . . What have I got? . . I'll tell yon ... In fact I'm bursting to tell you. . . . Wait till 1 take a Big Breath . . . here goes. . . ON THE PROGRAMME COMMENCING TOMORROW AT THE PARAMOUNT ... AND I DEFY ANYONE TO FIND A MORE FORMIDABLE LINE-UP ON ANY PROGRAMME IN ANY PART OF THE WORLD . . . THIS PROGRAMME I. FEEL TO BE MY SUPREME ACHIEVEMENT . . . AND I'VE BEEN IN SHOW BUSINESS SINCE I WAS FOUR . . . YOU KNOW SINCE I'VE BEEN IN TOWN AND AT THE PARAMOUNT THEATRE THERE HAS BEEN A MOVE AROUND TOWN TO CHANGE THE NAME OF COURTENAY PLACE TO GORDON-PARAMOUNT PLACE . . . 's FACT. . . . BUT, you must be wanting to know how come so many stars on the same bill. . . . Well, here is the wherefore. ... I was DETERMINED to give our Patrons the finest first half programme possible to go with the finest second half it will be your privilege to see for many a moon, so I awayed to the Office of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, undoubtedly the "class" producers of the entire film industry, and made arrangements to see EVERY Short that they have ever produced. . . . NOT having still in circulation EVERY" Short they have ever made, I was only able to view 278 Shorts altogether. . . . From the 275, I selected the Best, and so was able to buy for Paramount Theatre Patrons . . . DEANNA DURBIN and JUDY GARLAND in "EVERY SUNDAY AFTERNOON"; STAN LAUREL and. This Short has a real Hollywood background and was photographed in all the Night Spots of the Cinema City, and introduces several Song Hits; "OUR GANG" in "NIGHT' IN GALES," with ALFALFA and SPANKY at their Joyous Best and ALFALFA SINGS; and JAMES FITZPATRICK'S delightful TECHNICOLOUR TRAVEL TALK, "JAIPUR —THE PINK CITY"; A PETE SMITH SPORTS SPECIALTY entitled "HOT ON ICE," which is in my humble opinion the best photographed Motion Picture I have ever witnessed, and does Smith do his Stuff . . . I'll say . . . and then to round out the first half of this tremendous plrogramme we have the honour to introduce the latest in newsreels—"PASS.-' ING PARADE"—a streamlined model of the old newsreel with Stop Press items presented, in the modern manner . . . and that is our First Portion of Our Special Programme, which commences TOMORROW. . . . And now for the Feature Attraction . . . "THE CEOWp ROARS" is one of the most entertaining Pictures to be screened for some time ... its cast is capable and sincere . . . headed by Robert Taylor it includes such favourite and talented artists as Maureen O'Sullivan, Frank Morgan, Edward Arnold, Lionel Stander, William Gargan, Nat Pendleton, and Jane. Wyman. . . . When I had my Operator run thru this film, for me, I will be quite frank and admit, I expected to see just ANOTHER Fight Film and Not such a Good Fight Picture at that. . . . BUT WAS MY FACE RED . . . "THE CROWD ROARS" IS ONE OF THE FINEST FILMS THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN OR" EVER EXPECT TO SEE. . . . VAGUELY IT REMINDED ME OF THE PATHOS OF "OVER THE HILL." . ". . YES, IT HAD ME QUIETLY WEEPING . . . THEN IT HAD ME THRILLED AND EXCITED WITH SOME OF THE MOST DRAMATIC SITUATIONS EVER RECORDED ON CELLULOID . . . and THE ROMANCE IS DELIGHTFULLY TREATED . . . AND . . . BUT, I'LL GIVE YOU AN iDEA OF THE STORY . . : IF YOU'LL FORGIVE ME DARING TO ATTEMPT TO BRIEFLY IN MY OWN WORDS RECORD THE SWEEP AND POWER OF SUCH A MIGHTY DRAMA. . . . The Story opens ... As a boy, Tommy McCoy not only is the best singer in his church choir but also the best fighter in the neighbourhood. Tommy to marry Sheila. . . . nut] that my Dear Friends, is "The Crowd Roars" in my pitiful attempt at putting this GREAT story in words at my command. ... 1 know that every MAN, _ WOMAN, and CHILD tlmt seos this Programme will be more than satisfied.
