WASHINGTON, January 4.

It is announced that the deficit for the first half of the 1939 fiscal year is 1,601,000,000 dollars, compared with 552,000,000 dollars for the corresponding period of 1938.

The Public Debt stands at 39,427,000,000 dollars, compared with 37,279,000,000 dollars for the 1938 period.
