(B? Telegraph - Pr^se Association i AUCKLAND, January 4.
Licences to import motor vehicles for six months to the value of the import figures for the first six months of last year have been granted to motor importers in Auckland. According to importers who have received licences no restriction was placed on foreign car products in favour of British products, nor was it indicated that assembled vehicles should be imported in preference to those landed -unassembled.
The Bureau of Importers has sent th° following telegram to the Minister of Customs, Mr. Nash:—"Licences already issued fndicate very definitely that instructions have been Issued to Customs offices giving a basis on which to work. Customs officials refuse to disclose the basis to importers but our x members cannot continue to trade and maintain . staffs when permits are being arbitrarily refused and even the basis of refusal is not stated. Kindly telegraph the following information:— (1) The list of British goods you have prohibited, British goods partially prohibited, and British goods the importation of which will not be interfered with; (2) ditto Empire goods; (3) ditto foreign goods. As a general meeting is being held at the beginning of next week we would , appreciate an early reply."
