TELEVISION FEAT
PICTURE RECEIVED ACROSS
ATLANTIC
(British Official Wireless.)
RUGBY, January 8.
A remarkable record has been established in connection with the development of television. The guaranteed range for effective reception of a picti*re transmitted from Alexandra Palace is only 30 miles, but on several occasions perfect reception has been reported up to more than 100 miles. It is now reported that, during a series of tests which have been in progress at the Riverhead receiving station of the Radio Corporation of America on Long Island, New York, pictures from Alexandra Palace were picked up. This constitutes a new record for authenticated long-distance television. . •
Though experts are inclined to regard this as freak reception due to exceptional atmospheric conditions, the event marks an important landmark in the progress of television.
