SHORTAGE OF SHEARERS

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

DUNEDIN, This Day.

According to the placement officer, the demand for shearers is much greater than the supply and shearing is suffering serious delay, despite the fact that there are more Australian shearers here than ever previously.

It is stated that with the limited number of shearers available when shearers finish one run they choose from the many still offering instead of carrying on to the next, and it is sug* gested that to prevent the New Zealand shearer becoming extinct farmers should be compelled to employ a pre portion of learners on the boards. Plenty are stated to be eager to learn.

Housing loans having been renewed «ft a lower rate of interest, Sheffield is to give a rent holiday at either Christmas or Whitsuntide to the 24,000 [tenants of corporation housing estates.
