BRITISH STAB COMPARES
Plump Robert Morley, British actor and co-star with Norma Shearer in "Marie Antoinette" (he plays Louis XVI with' magnificent results), confesses to no preference in the type of character he plays. Any good part giving range to his abilities, he considers, is sufficient for any actor worthy of the name. In an interview with Lucius Beebe, New York critic for, the "San Francisco Chronicle," Mr. Morley .made an interesting comparison between the New York and London theatres. The chief difference, he noted, was in quantity. "At home," he said, "we don't take a chance on anywhere near the number of shows New York producers do, and as a result we have far fewer flops. Why, the plays that open and close here in a fortnight would be enough for the London season." Mr. Morley put the reason . down to the fact that the rewards of/success in New York are so much higher that it is worth while taking a bigger gamble. Mr. Morley is a very popular figure on the American stage, and now that he has • appeared in a film, his popularity is even greater. ; .'.
